Perotine is a name I hold close to my heart, her story…
In 1556 on the island of Guernsey, Perotine Massey along with her mother and sister were burnt at the stake during the reformation for their religious stance. At the time Perotine was pregnant and with the pressure of the fire she gave birth, the child was rescued to then be ordered to be thrown back into the flames as a child of the devil, the only devil is in the people that could commit such an evil act.
I named my scarf Perotine as a sort of rebirth, imagining an alternative world where Perotine lives freely and unapologeticly herself.
She’s shades of green like the ever-changing blue-ish green sea, the lakes, the fields, the forest, the fern covered cliffs, green is the heart charka, the colour most dominate in nature, the colour of abundance, the colour of love and compassion.
May we all be Perotine, embrace our inner heretic and stand up against the grain, celebrate our differences and never just blend in to please others.
